I bought Kaytee Select Blend birdfood from Walmart for my son's African
Grey, but he doesn't want to give it to his bird. The pet store tells my
son he should feed his bird Pretty Bird bird food which is a bulk food they
sell that has all the essential vitamins and minerals a bird needs.
What is wrong with what I bought? I must tell you that my son's bird is fed
almost exclusively the bulk food bird food and most of it winds up in the
bottom of the cage. When I visit my son and fill his bowl with the Kaytee
Select Blend, he goes right to the bowl and starts eating. Am I hurting the
bird?
My son wants to feed the bird what is best for him.

does the package say for 'african greys/medium parrots'? if so, then it's
more than Completely fine to feed the bird that.
your local pet store is obviously trying to make you buy from him.

Then give the bird a premium pellet. Kaytee, Pretty Bird, etc are the
McDonalds of pellets. Scenic and Tropican, not only are premium
pellets but, you can actually buy them for less than Kaytee, Pretty
Bird, etc. BTW your son's AG needs to be feed many other foods
(fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, etc than just bulk pellets.

Before you start buying other foods for your son's CAG, At least check out
the Harrison's Bird Foods. It caqme highly recommended by two vets in my
neck of the woods because it is organic, and thus kinda expensive. You only
use a very small amount twice a day.
Go to their web site at http://www.harrisonsbirdfood.com, and read up about
their foods, or ask your Vet to give you their opinion of Harrison's.
I have no stake in this company what so ever, but I was very impressed with
their foods. In fact, I tried to convert my 10 year old CAG from his KayTee
Rainbow Chunky for about one month, but he would not accept
it,unfortunately, so he is back on the Rainbow Chunky again. I have been
told that KayTee by very experienced CAG owners that this is all they feed
their birds, and supplement with fresh organic fruits and vegetables, so
that is what he is back too.
Good luck with the food, and happy holidays!
